FINDING PEACE

Now it came to pass on a certain day, that he went into a ship with his disciples: and he said unto them, Let us go over unto the other side of the lake.  And they launched forth.  But as they sailed he fell asleep: and there came down a storm of wind on the lake; and they were filled with water; and were in jeopardy.  And they came to Him, and awoke Him, saying, Master, master, we perish.  Then he arose and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water: and they ceased, and there was a calm.  And he said unto them Where is your faith?        (Luke 8:22-25)

Often we find ourselves in the midst of a spiritual, physical or emotional storm.  What do we do?  What can help?  Even though we love God, it seems we are at unrest!

Peace in this world is often elusive.  One reason is that people tend to look for peace outside themselves and coming in to them, instead of inside themselves and emanating out from themPeace comes from God and He places it within us.  Consider Paul after having written the 1st epistle to those at Corinth, he was concerned about the response it would receive.  (II Corinthians 7:4-6)

We see Job in his misery, continuing to give credit to God's work of peace in his life.  (Job 19:23-26) His peace came from his Confidence in God.  It was from WITHIN for there was none to be had from others!  Have you experienced turmoil from your friends and relatives, even when you are trying to serve God?

The Psalmist knew the peace of God.  Peace that does not come from the world.  (Psalms 25:12)

Read Psalms 37:4.  What does it mean to "Delight in the lord"?  Realize this... Delight means "He" is what makes you happy!

Read (Psalms 37:11) (Psalms 37:37) (Isaiah 26:3)

Often God does not calm the storm in the life of His child.  Sometimes He calms the child in the life of the storm!

Peace comes from God as source of all!  God is not something that you "put in your pocket and carry around to use when you need it".  We have peace because He has us!  Isaiah said God was his peace when he "trusted" Him. (Isaiah 12:2).  If you limit what you obtain from God in the way of direction, comfort and purpose, then your benefit of peace is limited to the rate at which He is your source!

He is the Prince of Peace! (Isaiah 9:6)

Whose peace did the disciples have receive? (John 14:27)

Paul again champions the subject of Peace! (Romans 5:1) Our peace is Him!  Our stability is Him.

It is not OUR peace that keeps us, it is His!

(Philippians 4:7) (Romans 5:1-5)
