Four Things To Admire About Peter
Text: Matthew 14:28
Preface: The Apostle Peter followed Jesus 3 years and yet had much to gain when the going got tough. However in the end Peter performed exactly what he was taught to do. When we look at Christians, we like to admire good things. Let us today find the good things about Peter and how he obeyed the Word of God.
A. The Ability to Act When Others Hesitated.
- Think of how he jumped out of the boat and walked on water (Matthew 14).
- Many criticize him for sinking; we ought to give him a gold star for trying.
- Those who operate in fear would never have tried.
B. The Courage to Speak When Others Were Silent.
- In Matthew 16:13, Jesus Ask a question, "Who do men say I am?".
- Peter was the only one with boldness to answer.
- The man or woman who courageously speaks up about personal faith is always a step ahead of the crowd.
C. The Capacity to Discern When Others Were Unsure.
- Jesus instructed Peter that he had not come to this truth by himself.
- Flesh and Blood did not reveal it to Peter.
- Christ stated, "My Father in Heaven revealed it" (Matthew 14:17).
- Peter was gifted. He possessed Spiritual insight. He looked beyond the obvious.
D. Peter's Inquisitiveness.
- He asked questions because he wanted the right answers.
- He ask the following:
a. Matthew 15:15 The meaning of a difficult teaching.
b. Matthew 19:27 How often he had to forgive.
c. Mark 11:21 About the withered fig tree.
d. Mark 13:13 About the meaning of the last days.
e. John 21:20-22 Questioned the risen Christ.

Caleb, The Right Stuff
Note: This message was preempted by a mighty move of the Holy Spirit.
Text: Numbers 14:24
Preface: Caleb is one of the lesser known, but more powerful characters in the Bible. Caleb had boldness, intuition, powerful faith, rock-solid courage, keen intelligence and great leadership ability. God was so impressed He immediately identified him as "My servant Caleb".
A. Caleb's Background.
- He was one of the twelve spies of Israel to go into Canaan (Numbers 13:6).
- He was of the tribe of Judah - the tribe from which Jesus would descend.
- Caleb's father's name, Jephunneh, means, "prepared".
- Caleb's name means "bold".
B. The Report of The Ten Spies.
- The other spies believed Canaan unconquerable (Numbers 13:31).
- The other spies had no faith and low self-esteem (Numbers 13:33).
- This is the attitude of a weak, compromising, underachieving church (Matthew 7:13).
C. Caleb and Joshua's Report.
- They agreed that the land flowed with milk and honey (Numbers 13:27).
- They believed it could be possessed at once (Numbers 13:30).
- Their faith saved them (Numbers 14:30).
D. Caleb Received His Promise.
- Though 85 years of age, he was ready when his time came (Joshua 14:10-12)
- Caleb took the land (Joshua 15:14,15).
- Caleb left an inheritance to his family (Joshua 15:18-19).

How Big Is Our God
Text: I Thessalonians 4:13-17
Preface: When we think of the thought "How big is our God", needless to say it is impossible to make even a close estimate. The word of God tells us that we are waiting on the next important event in our journey toward Heaven. This event is known as the Rapture of the Church. Many have waited for this time and have gone by way of the grave. However, this does not mean that God's Word is not true or in vain. What sort of reaction do you think your friends and neighbors would have to such an event? This event is discussed over 530 times in the Bible.
A. What Does The Bible Say the World Will Be Like When The Rapture Comes?
- Matthew 24:37-39 tells us that it will be as the Days of Noah.
a. Eating and drinking
b. Marrying and given in marriage.
c. Knew not the flood came.
- Luke 17:28-30 speaks of a time when they bought and sold and builded.
a. Even so shall it be.
- Psalm 37:23-25 makes it very clear that the righteous will not be forsaken.
a. The steps of a good man are ordered of God.
B. What Kind Of Preparations Are in Order For This Event?
- Take heed and Watch and Pray (Mark 13:32-37).
a. Know not when the time cometh no one except the Father.
- So that ye come behind in no gift (I Corinthians. 1:7).
- Judge nothing before the time (I Corinthians. 4:5).
- Be preserved blameless (I Thessalonians. 5:23).
- Should live soberly, righteously, Godly in the present world (Titus 2:11-13)
- We should abide in Him (I John 2:28).

Why Did Jesus Ascend To Heaven
Text: Acts 1:11
Preface: In the eyes of most Christians Christ has ascended to Heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He went up as our representative, forerunner, high priest, and intercessor. Let us look at some reason's why He ascended.
A. He Ascended Because His Work On Earth Was Completed.
- His work on earth is described in Acts 10:38.
- "I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do" (John 17:4).
- Jesus, dying on the cross, said, "It is finished" (John 19:30).
B. He Ascended To Confirm The Prophecies.
- "For I know that my redeemer liveth" (Job 19:25-27).
- Isaiah 9:6-7 tells us that a child was born and a Son is given.
C. He Ascended To Commence His Mediatorial Work.
- To mediate means to bring about an agreement between parties, to settle disputes.
- For there is one mediator between God and man (Hebrews 9:15).
D. He Ascended To Send The Holy Ghost.
- Luke 24:49 and John 15:26 both tell of Jesus sending the Comforter.
- According to Acts 2:4 the Holy Ghost is here.
E. He Ascended To Make Intercession For Us.
- Hebrews 7:25 makes it very plain that Christ ever liveth to make intercession for us.
F. He Ascended To Prepare A Place For Us.
- "Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions." (John 14:1-3)
- I Corinthians. 2:9 tells us that eye hath not seen, nor ear heard what is laid up for us.

The Question Of John
Text: Luke 7:17-35
Preface: The raising of the widow's son had evidently produced a profound impression; the rumor went throughout the entire region round about. It was carried also to John while in his dismal prison. John like many in America today is asking the question "Why".
A. The Question.
- "Art Thou He that should come, or look we for another?" (Luke 7:19)
- It does seem strange that such a question would come from John Baptist.
- From him who saw the Spirit descend like a dove upon Christ.
- Who said, "Behold the Lamb of God". (John 1:32-36)
- But why should the Almighty Deliverer allow His forerunner to pine away in a dark and loathsome dungeon.
- But the trial of Faith is precious.
B. The Answer.
- Christ reply shows no displeasure at the question of John.
- Verses 21-23 tells that Christ responded "Go your way, and tell John what things ye have seen and heard".
- Christ never sends any one to tell what they think!
- I John 1:1-3 tells "We speak that we do know" and what a story they had to tell.
- Oh what a story we also have to tell.
C. The Testimony.
- As soon as the messengers are gone Jesus bears witness to the true character and divine mission of John (Luke 7:24-30).
- He was no silly reed shaken with every wind of doctrine that may blow.
- Even John's martyrdom prepared the way for the Crucifixion.
- John's faith is a living testimony to Romans 8:28, "All things work good".

To Be A Christian
Text: John 9:4
Preface: Christ certainly was extending a warning to all Christians in the Word we just read. In the past week America has witnessed the very fact of this scripture. We have no promise of tomorrow. To Do God's work as we are suppose to, there are some "I need to's. Let us look at some of these mentioned in the Word of God.
A. I Need To Be Friendly.
- To have friends one must shew himself friendly (Proverbs 18:24).
a. Many professing Christians are unfriendly, cold toward others because they are self-centered.
b. Unfriendliness defeats one's Christianity, disappoints others, and displeases God.
B. I Need To Be Forgiving.
- "If ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses" (Matthew 6:15).
a. As a Christian, I must forgive. I cannot live with resentments and grudges.
b. Total surrender to God of our will enables us to be forgiving (Matthew 6:14).
C. I Need To Be Fruitful.
- God's Word in John 15:16 tells us that He has chosen us and we are to go forth and bring forth fruit.
a. Some get excited when challenged to bear Spiritual fruit, but lose sight of their goal when their enthusiasm subsides.
b. When enthusiasm subsides and inspiration is lacking, it is evidence of a need of revival.
D. I Need To Be Faithful.
- "Be thou faithful unto death, and I will give the crown of life" (Revelations 2:10).
- God is all knowing of our mistakes, He wants us to hold fast to Him when we are weak and trembling.

Lucifer Is Limited
Text: Ephesians 6:12
Preface: There have been many Godly men who have led armies with due diligence in Prayer and Consecration. Moses, Joshua, and David are Biblical examples of men who feared God and fought wars to purge evil and restore righteousness. We also are in a continuous war against Lucifer, there are countless times in Spiritual warfare when the believer feels overwhelmed. Believers need not fear. Though Lucifer may rant and rage, develop war strategy, and amass a sizable arsenal, there is no uncertainty of the outcome of the battle. Lucifer is limited.
A. Lucifer Does Not Have The Capability.
- To invent or create things.
- Lucifer's evil plan has evolved based upon analysis of what works best to corrupt God's creation.
- He is limited to devising schemes and techniques that utilize inventions of man.
- The Almighty is not ignorant of the devices of Lucifer.
- Hell's darkest secrets are not hidden from the omniscient (Proverbs 15:11).
B. Lucifer Knows Only After the Fact.
- He is an angel, made and designed to watch over, to assist and to bring glory to the Creator.
- Different from man, angels are neither male or female, do not reproduce, and are not given powers of creativity to invent or manufacture.
- While fallen angels have lost the essence of their pure purpose, as angels retain certain powers endowed by the Creator.
- Yet, their power cannot become greater than granted to them in their original state.
- If Lucifer could increase his power, he would have god powers.
C. Each Creation Has Been Scrutinized.
- Hell's spies have tried to determine the usefulness of our failures.
- Lucifer has used:
a. Manipulation (Ezekiel 28:17).
b. Pigs as a dwelling place for demons (Matthew 8:32).
c. Locust to destroy crops (Exodus 10).
d. Thorns and thistles to frustrate sowing and harvesting.
Comments: Lucifer had not known that man would be created. Lucifer did not know or understand the significance of man, nor did he comprehend the power of man. While goodness is not possible for Lucifer, man has been endowed with the divine responsibility to subdue and have dominion over the earth (Genesis 1:28).

Jesse's Sons
Text: I Samuel 16:6-7
Preface: Often times we as humans forget that God's eyes do not focus on what our eyes do. When God sets forth a divine mission, man can only carry through with the plan. If we are not doing God's will He will move us out of the picture. The greatest agenda of our life will consist of being in God's total will.
A. Samuel's Assignment.
- And the Lord said unto Samuel (vs. 1).
- "Fill thine horn with oil, and go". (vs. 1).
- I have provided Me.
B. How Can I Go?
- Afraid of Saul.
- Sacrifice to the Lord (vs. 2).
C. Samuel Looks On The Outward.
- The first son of Jesse was Samuel's choice.
- But the Lord said (vs. 7).
- God looks on the heart.
D. Is This All Your Sons?
- Samuel did not find the choice of God (vs. 11).
- When we let God's will be done; we will know the right choice.

The Roads That We Walk With Jesus
Text: Romans 1:5-6
Preface: Christians endure many different situations while living for Christ. Most of the time, we struggle with tough roads and often wonder why we are on a particular path. However; our Lord knows exactly where we are in our journey toward Heaven. We can always turn to the Word of God for the encouragement we need.
A. The Road of Submission - The Damascus Road.
- Damascus was located in Syria, North of Jerusalem.
- First mentioned in Genesis 14:15 concerning Abraham's battle with Lot's captors.
- This is the road where Christ confronted Saul with Heavenly light so bright that it caused Saul to fall to the ground in submission (Acts 9:3-4).
- All who belong to Christ have walked this road.
B. The Road of Sacrifice - The Calvary Road.
- This road was probably rough and only a beaten path that led to execution.
- Simon, from Syrene, carried the cross along this road.
- At the end of this road, the Lamb of God was slain for our redemption.
- You must walk Calvary's Road in order to accept Christ as your Savior.
- From the "Place of the Skull" comes the "Hope of Eternal Life".
C. The Road of Compassion - The Jericho Road.
- The Road to Jericho was the setting of the account of "The Good Samaritan" (Luke 10:30).
- Blind Bartimaeus was healed by Christ along this same road (Mark 10:46).
- The Road of Compassion needs to be traveled more frequently by Christians.

Lean Souls In The Midst Of Fat Pastures
Text: Psalms 106:15, Matthew 9:37-8.
Preface: You may hear sermons till you are blue in the face. You may say Prayers all the days of your life and yet die lean and starved at the last, unless you give your soul to the whole-hearted will of God.
A. Pharaoh's Dream.
- Genesis 41 tells of Pharaoh dreaming of cattle eating up fat cattle yet growing no fatter themselves.
- The story illustrates men and women who live in the midst of this wonderful world which God has filled with such abundant opportunities.
- So rich in privileges for the development of the Spiritual nature, who yet go lean and hungry.
- We as Christians do not need to absorb blessings like a sponge and be lean and starving in the end.
B. The Miracle At The Red Sea.
- Exodus 14 explains the Miracle of the Crossing of the Red Sea.
- God delivered them. The people were at first grateful but they soon forgot all God's wonderful gifts in their behalf.
- They gave themselves over to their own lusts and followed their own way.
- They were like people today, who do not intend to let their Church, religion, or conscience stand in the way of their worldly success.
C. The Blessing Of Pentecost.
- Acts 2 informs us that the Baptism of The Holy Ghost was given in the Upper Room.
- The Disciples were filled with Power from on high, yet soon forgot the communion with Christ.
- Because we are Spiritually high today does not insure our being Spiritually high tomorrow.
- Like the 120 in the Upper Room, we must return daily to be refilled.

a. A religious leader. (Revelations 13:4).
b. A political leader. (Revelations 13:7).
c. An economical leader (Revelations 13:16-17).
C. There Will Be A Time Of Tribulation.
- It will be a time of vengeance of our Lord. (Zephaniah 1:14-18).

- It will be a time of famine. (Revelations 6:5-6).
- It will be a time of death for many. (Revelations 6:8). For others, it will be a time when they shall seek death and cannot die. (Revelations 6:15-17, Revelations 9:1-6).
D. Can Anyone Be Saved During This Time?
- Some will be saved. (Revelations 7:9-14).
- But it will be hard for a person who has heard the Gospel during this day to be saved in that day. (II Thessalonians 2:11-12).
