The Prayer Of Moses

Text:  Exodus 33:12-23

Preface:   Christians like Moses are called to be ambassadors for God.  We are living in a perverse and disobedient time.  Although the treasure is great, the vessel is but earthen (2 Corinthians 4:7).  Our prayer life should be the greatest that we, as Christians, have ever attained.  Moses talked to God continually and shared his every move with Him.  Let us look at this prayer and the four God-honoring requests.

A.  Moses Requested The Presence Of Jehovah.
  1. "Shew me now thy way" (Exodus 33:13).
  2. Those that live close to God feel the need of being led by the Spirit of God.
  3. Moses asked God:
    1. "That I might know thee" (Exodus 33:13).
B.  Moses Requested The Presence Of God Be Known.
  1. "If thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence" (Exodus 33:15).
  2. We need God's presence today:
    1. Fellowship and rest.
    2. Rest from the power of sin.
    3. Rest from the fear of men.
    4. Rest from the cares of this world.
C.  Moses Prayed That The Power Of God Be Manifest.
  1. "Wherein shall it be known here" (Exodus 33:16).
  2. If the presence of God is with us, it will be known by a powerful witness.
  3. God and the world do not agree (2 Corinthians 6:14-18).
D.  Moses Prayed That The Glory Of God Be Seen.
  1. "Shew me thy glory" (Exodus 33:18).
  2. God answered in a promise:
    1. "I will make all my goodness pass before thee" (Exodus 33:19-22).

The Master

Text:  John 2:1-10

Preface:   Throughout the New Testament there is much evidence that Jesus is the Master.  He is the Master of death, demons, sickness and much more.  Without Christ this world would be eternally lost to the devil's reign.  I would like for us to look this evening at why he is called "Master" so many times.

A.  He Is The Master Of Quality (John 2:1-10).
  1. Whatever Jesus does is right, it needs no addition.
  2. Mary told the servants "Whatsoever He saith unto you, do it" (John 2:5).
  3. The governor declared the wine excellent (John 2:10).
B.  He Is The Master Of Distance (John 4:46-54).
  1. Distance means nothing to Christ.
  2. A certain nobleman's son was sick to the point of death (John 4:46-47).
  3. Jesus replied that "Except you see signs and wonders, ye will not believe" (John 4:48).
  4. Jesus informed the nobleman to "Go thy way; thy son liveth" (John 4:51).
C.  He Is The Master Over Quantity (John 6:5-14).
  1. Five thousand men were following Jesus, and it was time to eat (John 6:5).
  2. Jesus blessed five loafs and two small fish and supplied all.
  3. "But my God shall supply all your need" (Philippians 4:19).
D.  He Is The Master Of Helplessness (John 9:1-31).
  1. The man in John 9 was blind from birth (John 9:1).
  2. Christ spat on the ground and made clay of the spittle and anointed the eyes of the blind man (John 9:6-7).
  3. After washing in the pool of Siloam, the man was made to see (John 9:7).
  4. The blind man answered, "One thing I know, whereas I was blind, but now I see" (John 9:25).
Thought:  "Hereby know we that we dwell in Him, and He in us" (I John 4:13).

A Time Of Refreshing

Text:  Jude 3, Revelation 1:7

Preface:   How many remember the joyous feeling of praise that you had after accepting Christ as your personal Savior?  Immediately your faith started growing.  However, Satan is going full strength to rob you.

We often have a problem with the faith which we use to have because we:

A.  Have lost our first love. (Ephesus)
  1. Revelation 2:4-5
  2. Do not have zeal to worship, pray, or study God's word.
  3. Not interested in fellowship with saints or soul winning.
B.  Become luke warm.
  1. Revelation 3:15-16
  2. Not Satisfied, hot or cold.
  3. In need of a refreshing by the Holy Spirit.
C.  The love of God.
  1. As many as have
    1. I rebuke
    2. Chasten
  2. Be zealous and repent.
  3. "Behold, I stand at the door and knock." (Revelation 3:20)
  4. "If any hear my voice and open the door, I will come in" (Revelation 3:20)
  5. Christ wants us to be over comers and keep the faith.

Answered Prayer

Text:  Matthew 7:7-11

Preface:   Do you catch yourself saying, "I pray and pray but it seems God does not hear me."  Our text informs us that Jehovah God does hear and is concerned about our needs.  I believe that the Word gives us clear pointers to receiving answered prayer.  God loves His children and will not see them cast down and empty handed.

A.  Freedom From Condemnation (Romans 8:1).
  1. "Now there is no condemnation".
  2. Paul was walking after the Spirit and not away from the Spirit.
  3. He knew that he was saved and transformed by the Power of God.
B.  Confidence In God (Acts 4:13).
  1. Peter and John showed confidence in God by being bold with their testimony.
  2. They stated that there is "No other name under Heaven whereby we must be saved."
  3. They relied on Jesus because they were changed men, totally surrendered.
C.  Truly Asking (Luke 11:9-13).
  1. Luke maintained a certainty of answered prayer (Luke 10).
  2. Faith is the secret to pleasing God (Luke 6).
  3. Faith is the necessity that we as Christians cannot afford to be without.

The Tempest Quelled

Text:  Matthew 8:26

Preface:   There are three theories concerning this long-ago storm.  One is that the storm came by purely natural causes.  The second theory is that it came by special Divine purpose.  Now the third one is that it was by satanic intervention.  Coming to plain fact, the truth is that the storm came and it was beyond human control and our Lord quelled it.  The Disciples were taught a big lesson concerning the Deity of our Savior Jesus Christ.  Let us look at the facts this morning.

A.  The Storm Came.
  1. Just as the Sea of Galilee was subject to sudden disturbances, so are our hearts.
  2. Sometimes Christ does not quell the actual storm of persecution, adversity and temptation.
B.  Inward Tossing And Surging.
  1. The storm itself is within us.
  2. There breaks a storm of fear, panic and often resentment.
  3. If the storm did not inwardly disturb us, there would be no problem.
  4. There arises another storm of doubt, discouragement, or rebellion.
C.  The Storm Is Then Out Of Control.
  1. Many such storms we ourselves cannot quell.
  2. Christ can change them in to a "Great Calm".
  3. We then learn lessons from Him concerning His:
    1. Love
    2. Wisdom
    3. Power
  4. When Christ controls the heart, swellings of fear, resentment and doubt die away.
  5. Let Him control your heart and there will be a "Great Calm", and the "Tempest will be Quelled".

A Hasty Spirit

Text:  Proverbs 14:29

Preface:   Do you often feel that your decision was made in haste?  Sometimes we catch ourselves saying, "I wish I had taken time to think or possibly pray before I acted".  Fast decision making will reap problems especially if the outcome will have an emotional or stressful effect on us or others we love.  God would have his children to consult Him on every matter in our lives.  The Bible gives us four examples of making a hasty discussion and what happens when we do so.

A.  Rehoboam (I Kings 12).
  1. Rehoboam thought it wise to consult with younger men concerning what he should do as king.
  2. Through his mistake thousands suffered wars, starvation, idolatry and numerous other sins were committed.
  3. Rehoboam was guilty of not taking wise counsel.
B.  Jehoram (II Kings 5:7).
  1. Jehoram thought that the Syrians were seeking a quarrel with him.
  2. He was hasty in thinking they had something against him.
  3. Jehoram's problem was being hasty in assuming others were not united with him.
C.  Jonah (Jonah 4: 8-9).
  1. Jonah was hasty in anger.
  2. Sometimes we are not satisfied with the direction God wants us to take.
  3. He wished himself to die and that's not what Jehovah had in store for this particular servant.
D.  Martha (Luke 10:40)
  1. Martha was concerned too much with service and not enough with worshipping God.
  2. She was hasty in not taking time to worship Him.

False Finish Lines

Text:  Revelation 3:20

Preface:   It is no longer acceptable merely to have some good services, good music, and good preaching.  We must meet God Himself.  It is time that we get "Burning Hearts" for "True Worship" for Jehovah God.  As I spoke to you three Sundays ago concerning the laid-back, lukewarm church at Laodicea (Revelation 3), I stated that God was sick and tired of the lukewarm Christians.  Rest assured that the Holy Spirit is shopping for the place of the next outbreak.  He is standing at the front door of our churches looking for true worshipers who are willing to prop the door open with upraised hands so His glory can come down and fill the house.

A.  The Door Latch Is On Your Side.
  1. But are the windows painted shut with:
    1. Tradition
    2. Lazy hearts
    3. Lack of passion for lost?
  2. God's betrothed and Bride have become too comfortable.
  3. We refuse to worship because worship requires self-energy.
B.  The Cost Of Intimacy Seems Too High.
  1. We need to arouse ourselves like Solomon's lazy bride (Song of Solomon 5:6).
  2. We find ourselves barren as David's wife Michal was.
  3. The Church's reluctance to pay the seemingly high cost of intimate worship is the root cause of our barrenness.
C.  When The Knocking Stops.
  1. I'm afraid the Dove of the Holy Spirit will settle somewhere else instead of where we would order His settling.
  2. We should not be happy with "Past Visitations" of the Holy Spirit.
  3. We need a "New Indwelling" of the Holy Spirit.
  4. According to His Word, He comes upon us through praise and worship.
  5. What would happen in our lives if we ask God to "Show me Your Face?"
  6. Don't be satisfied with a "Hollow Memory".

Opening Heaven

Note: This message was preempted by a move of the Holy Spirit.

Text:  Ephesians 1:3

Preface:   Have you ever been desperate for a move of God in your life?  Often God's presence will seem so real to others and yet we feel as if He is not in the house.  We all should know that He comes where He is invited and where He is worshipped and praised.  He is a jealous God and will have no other gods before Him.

A.  When God Shows Up Among Us.
  1. True revival comes when the Reviver comes to town.
  2. True revival is more like a flood than a river (Habakkuk 2:14).
  3. When Heaven is opened, there is a supernatural explosion of God's presence.
B.  Broken-ness On Earth.
  1. The way to open the windows of Heaven is to break and release torrents of repentance and worship among His people.
  2. There must be a deep broken-ness in us if we want to break through.
C.  What Is An Open Heaven?
  1. An "Open Heaven" is a place of easy access to God.
  2. According to Paul there are at least 3 Heavens (II Corinthians 12:2-4).
    1. The first Heaven is the natural sky over our heads.
    2. The second Heaven is the dominion of satan (Ephesians 2:2).
    3. The third Heaven is the domain of God and His holy angels.
D.  Don't Let Satan.
  1. Satan doesn't even a have the keys to his own house.
  2. Soon God will repossess Satan's house.

Christ's Authority

Text:  Mark 9:17-29

Preface:   We, as Christians, must never forget that His power can overcome the power of satan.  The narrative mentioned in our text clearly presents characteristics of Heaven, earth and hell.  Christ has authority over evil and has given the same power to His children.  Today we must exercise this power by the Name of Jesus, and not fail to place our entire trust in Christ Jesus.  By no other name, power, or god can we have such calm assurance.  In our text, Christ overcomes the weakness of His disciples and the work of the devil.  Let us look at what this powerful story in the Word tells us.

A.  Satanic Influence.
  1. We often think little of evil influence.
  2. Christ believed in personal wicked spirits.
  3. This evil influence had;
    1. An early beginning, "Of a child" (Mark 9:21).
    2. b. An overpowering, "He teareth him, and oft-times casteth him into the fire, and into the water" (Mark 9:18-22).
  4. Satan's influence in our lives can place our very existence in jeopardy.
B.  Disciples Failure.
  1. Failure in faith.
    1. Our unbelief is a stumbling-block in the way of others.
    2. The disciples lack of faith brought dishonor upon the Name of the Master (Mark 9:23).
  2. Failure in prayer.
    1. Prayer means power with God (Mark 9:29).
    2. The spirit of prayer is better than seasons of prayer.
  3. Failure in fasting.
    1. Prayer combined with fasting forms a two-edged sword that will usher us into victory.
C.  Christ's Victory.
  1. Christ was there to bring victory unto the young man.
  2. He replied, "Bring him unto me".
  3. Jesus stated the word of power, "Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out, and enter no more" (Mark 9:25).
  4. Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him up (Mark 9:27).
The same Christ honoring authority that brought victory to this lad will change and transform our lives if we will follow the principle stated in His Word.

Spiritual Breakthrough

Text:  Psalm 68:1-21

Preface:   The only possible way to know God is to Get Into His Presence.  The presence of God in your life is the difference between day and night, between life and death.  The definition of "presence" is to turn the face, to fill up, to pervade.  It also means to be under the eyes of or in the face of someone.  The very idea of God's presence has to do with God's face being turned toward someone in acceptance and favor.  God's presence means to be sufficient, to be able to sustain and support that which God energizes.  When God is present He sustains, He supports, He energizes.  Every time God manifested His presence in the Bible two things were present-His protection and His provision.

A.  God's Protection.
  1. Without the presence of God nothing can meet the needs of man's spirit.
  2. In our text "enemy" means adversary.
  3. Peter tells us that "our adversary, satan, goes about as a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour."
  4. When you are under the greatest attack of your life, when the enemy sets out to destroy you , when he is coming at:
    1. your finance
    2. your health
    3. your marriage
    4. your children
    5. your mental stability.
  5. God is about to perform a work for you to do like you have never before done.
  6. God is light, and when you come into His presence, all darkness will leave.
  7. The greater the intensity of light, the greater is the dispersion of darkness.
  8. The answer to darkness is not to fight it, but to light it.
B.  God's Provision.
  1. The minute you begin the hear, see and sense the voice of God, hindrances will start to disappear.
  2. Supplies and provisions will start to show up.
  3. You have to get to where your blessing is before you get blessed.
  4. God can and will stop the hindering spirit of the enemy.
  5. God can and will stop the activity of hell and dispatch an angel of mercy.

Living With Your Frustrations

Note: This message was preempted by a mighty move of the Holy Spirit.

Text:  Philippians 1:12-21

Preface:   Like a light beam out of the dungeon, comes this cheering message from the Apostle Paul in his Roman imprisonment.  You may put an eagle in a cage, but he will soon make his way to the highest perch and there he will spend his enforced leisure looking out toward the sun.  You may put a great man in prison and chain him to the floor between armed guards, but his soul remains free; his spirit cannot be imprisoned.

A.  Paul Succeeded In Forgetting About His Imprisonment.
  1. Listen to him, "I do rejoice and will rejoice".
  2. Four times he refers to his "bonds", but sixteen times in that brief Epistle we read the words "joy, rejoice, gladness".
  3. Twice he speaks of "praise and thanksgiving."
  4. Listen to him again, "For me to live in Christ and to die is gain."
B.  Paul Succeeded In Dignifying His Imprisonment.
  1. Whose prisoner was he (Ephesians 3:1, 4:1, "prisoner of Christ"?)
  2. Why was he here ("For the furtherance of the Gospel"?)
  3. Whence came that unquenchable optimism?
    1. He was convinced that "All things work together for good to them who are called according to his purpose."
  4. He was "Joyful in tribulation" (II Corinthians 7:4) because he could see beyond.
C.  Paul Succeeded In Capitalizing His Imprisonment.
  1. In his imprisonment he was determined that "Christ shall be magnified".
  2. Through his imprisonment, Paul secured a new congregation.
  3. Paul preached to the guards and prison workers, not a likely favorable congregation.
  4. From his imprisonment, Paul extended his ministry to the ends of the earth.
Thought:  Are we using our existing circumstance to minister to those whom Christ has placed in our paths.

Retaking The Trophy

Text:  I Samuel 21:9

Preface:   Christians have a definite problem when it comes to contending for the former faith and victory that they once held.  At times we have a short memory concerning how we were able to overcome satan and his means of putting the Child of God down.  How our lives would be changed if we could only continue in a victorious lifestyle.  This morning, let us take a closer look at how David went about "Retaking the Trophy".

A.  History Of This Sword Particular Sword.
  1. Was designed and forged for a giant (Goliath).
  2. Goliath used this sword to threaten and torment Israel.
  3. This sword was superior in size and temper, just like the Power of Jesus.
  4. Even though David killed Goliath with a small stone, the sword was his trophy.
B.  David Needed A Weapon.
  1. Was running from King Saul.
  2. Returned back to the priest for instruction.
  3. Inquired about a weapon of any design.
  4. Ahimelech informed him that his trophy from the battle with Goliath was wrapped in cloth and behind the ephod (I Samuel 21:9).
C.  None Like The Sword.
  1. David remembered just how great the sword was.
  2. We would do well to remember some past trophies.
  3. One great trophy is the Word of God, that cuts sharper than a two-edged sword (Hebrews 4:12).
  4. In the Book of Revelation, Christ appears and out of His mouth went a two-edged sword (Revelations 1:16).

Thought:  Let us remember this day the trophies that we have gained during combat with evil forces.  Satan does not like us to remember victories in which he lost the battle.  Satan is well aware that he will loose the war.
