NINETY NINE or ONE?

Text:  Matthew 18:12-14 KJV

  • Jesus shares a parable here about the importance of One sheep that is in trouble versus 99 that are in the fold.  This then compares to the church and the importance of reaching the persons that are lost vs those in the flock that are fat and filled.
  • The question is:  In the body of Christ which character do you identify with... the Fat in the Flock, The Lost Sheep or the Shepherd?

    A.  FAT IN THE FLOCK
    1. These are Satisfied Saints; "I'm Happy, I'm Fed, I'm Full."  Jesus had a few words for these:  (Matthew 23:23 KJV)
    2. Comfortable - Comfortable with Our Four and No More - I like the way things are.
    3. Confident - There are those that are "confident" of their own salvation and unconcerned about others.
    4. Complacent - Saved, Sanctified and Satisfied. Many only care about their own condition to the point they are self satisfied and have no desire to see a change in anyone else.
    B.  ONE LOST SHEEP
    1. Dissatisfied with the System - Seeking something that is fresh and alive; something different from the normal Fat in the Flock! "I'm am not going to be like the Fat in the Flock.  I refuse to be a hypocrite."  (Proverbs 14:12-13 NRSV).
In his search he has left the direction and protection of the shepherd in search for his own, only to find it too is Dry and Dead  (Luke 15:11-13 NIV)
    2. Physically In the Flock but Mentally Checked Out - There are other lost sheep that are still in the fold but only in body, just "hanging out" but with no commitment to the system.  Psalm 14:1
    C.  THE SHEPHERD
    1. The Shepherd Seeks to Rescue Lost Sheep -He leaves the 99 in the fold and searches for the One that is astray.  Jesus calls us also to become as He, caring for the sheep.  Jesus told His disciples  (Matthew 28:19-20 KJV)
    WHAT ARE YOU?
    1. FAT of the FLOCK - Complacent needing a change?
    2. LOST ONE - Alone without God, needing direction?
    3. SHEPHERD - Looking for lost sheep to build the kingdom of God?

    BEING A COMPELLING CHURCH

    Text:  Luke 14:16-24

Preface:   The church is to be an ATTRACTIVE FORCE influencing the world for Christ!  How do we become that Church?

    A.  COMPELL
    1. (Luke 14:23 NIV) "Then the master told his servant, 'Go out and country lanes and "COMPEL" or make them come in, so that my house will be full Take No Excuse, Come As You Are, Bring Them With You.
      • Take No Excuse, Come As You Are, Bring Them With You.
    2. WE ARE TO BE A COMPELLING CHURCH
      • Jesus is calling "Whosoever Will Come"  (Revelation 22:17)
      • God wants Active Christians who are "Sharing The Faith." As Paul said (2 Corinthians 6:2)
      • We have the same command as the Disciples  (Matthew 28:19)
    B.  IT STARTS WITH EXCITEMENT IN ME
    1. YOUR COMMITMENT TO CHRIST WILL FIRE YOUR PASSION!
      • He ‘In You’ motivates Evangelism!
      • The Holy Spirit in you will be enough to draw people to the Lord! The world is Hungry and Thirsty for the truth of God’s word!
      • The world will not hear it, if we don't tell it!!
    C.  I WANT THE PRESENCE OF GOD IN ME!
    1. Everywhere that Jesus went, the people followed Him. As He is present in us, we will draw people unto Him!  (John 8:12)
    2. HOW DOES THAT HAPPEN? Dead Men Come To Life In Christ! Only by Dying to self can we be alive in Christ Jesus!  (Romans 6:4)
      • We can change the world around us, if we are willing to die to self and let Christ live through us!
      • (Romans 12:1-2)
    ARE YOU COMPELLING?
    • How will you compel the world to feast at the table of God?
    • Ask yourself the question: Does Jesus truly live in ME?

    SEEKING THE PRESENCE OF GOD

    Text:  Isaiah 6:1-5 KJV

    Preface:
    • Are you ready for the "presence" of God vs. the "effect" of God?
    • Here Isaiah records his response to the appearance of God.
    • He said, "woe is me! For I am undone" (which means "destroyed").
    • He recognized he was in the presence of a Holy God!
    A.  ONLY DEAD MEN SEE GOD’S FACE
    1. John the revelator was taken up and saw God. This is what he said (Revelation 1:17 KJV) And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead
    2. The Holiness of God affects Flesh that way!
    3. Before we can truly come into the presence of God, we too must Die!
    B.  GOD WANTS MORE THAN EXCITED PRAISE
    1. WE MUST DIE FIRST
      • Salvation Plan of God requires that we DIE before we can live! (Romans 6:3-4 KJV)
      • We Must Crucify the Flesh (Galatians 2:20 KJV)
    2. THERE MUST BE LESS ME AND MORE HE
      • John the Baptist said (John 3:30 KJV)  He must increase, but I must decrease.  For that to happen requires a purging of self, and merging of God.  (James 4:8-10 NRSV).
    C.  THERE MUST BE SACRIFICE FOR THE GLORY OF GOD TO COME DOWN
    1. GOD IS LOOKING FOR PEOPLE of SACRIFICE AND CHANGE
      • If you are hungry for the fire to fall around you, then you need to crawl up on the altar of sacrifice and commit yourself to Him.
      • (Matthew 5:8 KJV)
      • (Psalm 51:10 KJV)

Preparing For The Kingdom of God

    Text:  Luke 17:20-36

Preface:   We pray "Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven".  Do we understand the fullness of what we are praying?  Are we prepared for what we are asking for?

God’s will is that we be a house standing together prepared for the Day of the Lord.  A house divided will always fall  (Matt. 12:25).  Let’s share one purpose and one goal.  That is to be prepared for the day of the Lord’s return, to prepare by sharing the gospel, to see souls saved and lives changed.

What great things can the people of God do when we are working together in the power of God!  When we work together as the body of Christ, we will see the power of god revealed  (Acts 2).  What great joy that will bring!  Let’s look at a few ways to prepare for God’s Kingdom.

    A.  Accept Jesus Christ as Your Lord and Savior.
    1. The only way to get in, is through Him.  (John 14:1-6)
    B.  Live Your Life for God.
    1. Live for the will of God rather than Human desires.  (I Peter 4:1-6)
    2. Be prepared for the end of all things.  (I Peter 4:7)
    3. Cleanse yourselves and be renewed  (I Peter 2:1-3).
    C.  Be a Part of God’s Chosen People.
    1. Belong to God.  (I Peter 2:9-11)
    2. Offer acceptable spiritual sacrifices.  (I Peter 2:4-5)
    3. Worship Him in Spirit and in Truth.  (John 4:23-24)
    D.  Be Diligent and Devoted In Your Service to God.
    1. Love one another and show hospitality.  (I Peter 4:8-9)
    2. Find your gift and put it into effect for God’s Kingdom.  (I Peter 4:10-11)
    3. Don't think of your service as a favor shown, it is your duty.  (Luke 17:7-10)
    4. Don't fret over compensation our reward has already been promised us.  (Luke 18:29-30)
    E.  Be United In The Body of Christ.
    1. Jesus’ disciples - different gifts, yet one purpose.  ( I Cor. 12:12-30)
    2. Many types of servers, yet one Master.  (I Cor. 12:12-30)
    3. Many types of service, yet one goal.  (I Cor. 12:12-30)
    4. We all are different parts of the body, yet we all come together to form the Body of Christ.  (I Cor. 12:12-30)
    Is This Your Goal?

I press toward the mark for the prize of the High calling of God in Christ Jesus!  (Phil. 3:14 KJV)

    Fan the Flame

    Text:  2 Timothy 1:5-6 NIV

Preface:   Paul was writing to Timothy, encouraging him to "stir up the coals of anointing" that had been placed in him.  In the church today, we also need to be reminded to Stir up the Fire of God and hold to the Faith!

    A.  SATISFIED WITH CHARCOAL

Charcoals put off heat, but they reveal very little light to see in the dark.  In the church we often want to feel the heat but we don't want a fire to reveal what we are hiding in the darkness.
    1. HIDE & SEEK - Sometimes we hide things in the dark and try to keep them from God
      • We Hide From Others
      • We Hide From Ourselves
      • We Hide From God
    2. EVERYTHING HIDDEN SHALL BE REVEALED
      • (Numbers 32:23 KJV)  (1 Corinthians 3:13 KJV)  (Luke 19:10 KJV)
    B.  FAN INTO FLAME THE POWER OF YOUR ANOINTING!
    1. Just as Paul encouraged Timothy to "Stir Up The Coals and Fan the Flame" the Gift of God! that is how God wants the church to stay.  He is not satisfied with the Satisfied!  God is looking for a Church that is Hungry for Souls!
    2. (2 Timothy 1:7,8 (KJV)
    3. (Ephesians 6:11-18)
    C.  ENDURE
    1. After exhorting Timothy to stir up the Fire and Keep the Faith, Paul also encourages him to ENDURE!
    2. (2 Tim 2:3-4 KJV)  (1 Tim 4:16 KJV)  (1 Pet 1:6-7 KJV)
    3. God has called us to be Consistent!  To be Bold in the Face of the Enemy.  To Stand and Keep The Faith.  As a church and as Individuals we are to endure!  If we endure, He has promised we Shall Overcome!!!  (1 Corinthians 10:13 KJV)
    4. (Rev 1:7-8 KJV) Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen. {8} I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty

The Sound of The Mulberry Trees

    Text:  II Samuel 5:23-24

Preface:   Let us learn from David to take no steps without God.  The last time you moved, or went into another business, or changed your situation in live, you asked God’s help, and then did it, and you were blessed in the doing of it.  Maybe you have been successful up to this point in live, but do not think that the stream of providence necessarily runs in a continuous current.  We should never rush into a duty without first getting the approval of Almighty God.

    A.  The Nature Of True Progress.
    1. "And David gradually became greater and greater." (vr. 10)
    2. God’s greatest results are the slowest of accomplishment.
    3. Haste is a sign of feebleness, but that which is to abide must be slowly achieved.
    4. David was to gain more instruction from the Lord on waiting for the move of His Spirit.
    B.  David Had A Choice.
    1. David was a "Go-getter."
    2. The first invasion of the Philistines took place soon after David was anointed King of Israel.
    3. We often feel that we are better off to face our enemies head-to-head.
    4. However, God had a different plan for David this time around.
    C.  A Screen Around Israel.
    1. David was informed that he should go around to the enemies back (vr. 23).
    2. He then was to wait for God’s time of victory. (vr. 24-25)
    3. When God places His hand around us, we will not be defeated.
    4. We are assured of victory as long as we depend 100% upon the King of Kings.

    Pursue the Prize

    Text:  Joshua 14:10-14
V12 Caleb said: Now therefore give me this mountain

Preface:   Under the direction of Joshua, Israel conquered the Kings of many cities to claim the "Promised Land" as God had said.  The people of Israel had learned to follow after God and to possess the promises of God as He provided.  ONE important individual in the group was a man named "Caleb."

Caleb was the partner to Joshua that believed Israel could possess the Land that God promised to Israel.  He was an "Obtainer," a Man of Faith and Commitment.

Now Caleb says "Give Me My Mountain"

There is a way to Obtain the Blessings and Promises of God for those who Believe and Trust Him.
    A.  SEE YOURSELF IN THE POSITION OF PROMISE
SEE YOURSELF in the position God has promised by "believing the Word of God."  This principal applies to the Spiritual, the Emotional and the Mental!  There are many mountains of living that we confront.

    1. Mountains of Emotional difficulties (Depression, Poor Self Image, Loneliness, Insecurity, Jealousy, Anger, ..);  These things "DRIVE YOU IN WRONG DIRECTIONS"
    2. Mountains of Spiritual difficulties (Sin - Alcoholism, Drug Addition, Pornography, Sexual Impurity, Greed, Lying, Cheating, Love of Money, Lust...) (1 John 2:16 KJV) These things "POSSESS" YOU and keep you from God!  They will steal your Soul!
    3. Mountains of Mental difficulties (Attention Deficiency, Ignorance, Confusion, Worry, Fear..)  These things "HINDER & PREVENT you from doing what you would. (Rom 12:1-2 KJV)
*Think on the things of God. As you Visualize the Victory over these things you can DO IT! (Prov 29:18 KJV).

    B.  MAKE A PLAN AND STICK TO IT
In claiming your mountains, you must determine HOW you will Climb them and How you will Conquer them.  There must be a method to what you do.

    1. Merely "Wanting Something is not good enough."  (John 5:39 KJV)  God in His Word gives us a Format to follow.  In the scriptures we have a Plan for Holy and Successful living.  (Prov 16:9 NIV)  (Psa 37:23 KJV)
    2. Determine what you want to accomplish step by step and God will Help you!  City By City and King by King, Israel overcame by the Power of God.  (Josh 10:5, 11)
When your plan is according to the Plan of God, He causes it to Prosper!

    C.  CRUCIFY THE FLESH AND PUT GOD 1st
    1. Seeing the Vision and Having a Plan is not enough!  You must place God FIRST in your life. (Psa 100:3 KJV)
    2. The problem with many is that they Want to be Right with God...But it never seems to "Happen".  (Luke 9:23-24)  (Psa 37:5 KJV)
Summary:   Caleb had Determined His Vision (he saw himself in Canaanland), He Established The Plan to go in and Conquer, and he Yielded Himself to God

God will take you into the Promised Land and give you your mountain, IF you will obey these Principals!

    Avoiding Wise Counsel

    Text:  Genesis 12:1-5

Preface:   It is very hard today to receive anointed and wise counsel.  Often times our friends and relatives want to help by telling us exactly what and how we are to handle problems.  We need to be very careful about following directions given by those who think they are God’s helpers, but are not listening to God.  Let us tonight learn by what God has to say about His man Abe.

    A.  God Informed Abraham To Leave All.
    1. "From your family" (vr. 1.)
    2. "From your father’s house" (vr. 1)
    3. Abe was to journey straight to Cannan (vr. 5)
    B.  Abraham Only Half-Obeyed God.
    1. Sometimes we must place a closure on the past.
    2. "And Lot went with him" (vr. 4)
    3. At first it seemed that Lot was just tagging along, however, verse 5 tell us that Abe took him.
    4. Also carried with him all his wealth (vr. 5)
    5. God made it very clear that Abe was to leave all behind him.
    C.  Ending Up In Egypt Instead Of Cannon.
    1. Even though a famine was upon the land (vr. 10), God promised to take care of Abe and his mission.
    2. What was Abe dong in Egypt?
    3. He even resorted to lying concerning his wife Sarah (vr. 13.)
    D.  The Plan Failed Anyway.
    1. "The land could not support them" (ch. 13, vr. 6)
    2. Lot ended up in Sodom (vr. 12)
    3. Abe later had to bargain with the death Angel concerning the destruction of Sodom (ch. 18)
    4. Sarah was protected by God because she was to be the great-great-great grandmother of Jesus Christ (The reason for the season).
Thought:   Make sure to follow God’s counsel in the exact way that He instructs us.  Never to waiver or sway form the vision.

    The Beginning of the End

    Text:  Malachi 1:7

Preface:   To the downfalls of mankind we find Satan - cunning, subtle, and deceptive.  He is as he was in Eden, in Job’s day.

    A.  Some Of The Steps Leading To The Downfalls - The Cause of Failures.
    1. With Adam
      1. Doubt - by adding to, or taking from the word of God.
      2. Desire for knowledge and power.
    2. Lot
      1. Selfishness - thought only of himself and what he could gain.
      2. Compromise with the Sodomites (sin).
    3. Israel
      1. Lack of faith in God’s appointed leader.
      2. Idolatry.
    4. Germany, France, Italy, Japan.
    5. Churches of today departing from faith and conviction.
    B.  The Inevitable Results.
    1. Of Adam’s sin - brought death into the world to all mankind.
    2. Lot - loss of everything, destruction of Sodom.
    3. Israel, at Sinai - death to those who participated.
    4. Israel lost God’s blessing, presence, and leadership.
    5. Godless nations of our day 0 all wend down in defeat.
    6. Churches closed - spiritual chaos - souls are lost.
    7. Men have left God out - God leaves them out lets them go their way to destruction.
    C.  The Cure and Avenue of Escape - Malachi 3:7.
    1. Return to God in Spirit.
    2. Return to the Christian spirit of co-operation.
    3. Return to obedience of God’s Word.
    4. Return to prayer.
    5. Return to dependence upon the Lord.
Conclusion:   The beginning of a life of sin is the first rejection of the Lord when the Holy Spirit speaks to the heart.  Each time one rejects the call of Christ is another step in the destruction of the soul.
