Until It Is Changed
Text: Genesis 32:24-26
Preface: There is a Theology of God's presence. When His manifested presence appears in any area or vicinity, the forces of darkness lose their ability to sway Christians, The world doesn't fear Him because the Church doesn't fear Him. The presence of God brings people to a place where they fear the name of the Lord. How could the world fear something they have never experienced?
A. Christians Need A God Changing Experience.
- Who will take hold of God and not release until they are changed?
- People of passion will desperately pursue what educated tell them can't be caught.
- Jacob knew what a blessing was because he remembered what happened when his father laid his hand upon his head
a. Can we remember how it felt when God blessed us?
b. Is what we are seeking from God worth saying that we are not going to let go until we are blessed?
B. We Don't Need A Discount Store Mentality.
- Whether we come for revival, physical healing or a financial blessing, we want to receive it at the cheapest price and shortest time possible.
- God's people don't need a "blue light special".
- We know what we want, but do we know what we need?
C. Jacob's Name.
- Jacob's name means "supplanter" or trickster.
- He was a lifelong deceiver, a trickster who stole his older brother's blessing
D. We Need To Wrestle Until We Get A Name Change.
- Jacob needed a new life, not a blessing on a messed-up life.
- The world needs to see us limp instead of running.
- We need to come to church to get changed.

Experiences Under The Juniper Tree
Text: I Kings 19:4
Preface: Elijah the Tishbite was one of the most heroic of the prophets. Bold, God-fearing, self-denying, he stands out as one of the bravest of the Lord's servants. Elijah and John the Baptist both represent the self-denying and the valiant of two dispensations. However, now we find him exhibiting opposite traits of character to those we should expect. He now shows trends toward cowardice and irreligion.
A. The Strange Course He Adopted.

a. His Divine challenge.
b. The slaughter of the prophets of Baal (I Kings 18:21-40).

B. Let Us See How He Acts under Pressure
- As a coward he deserts his post of honor (I Kings 19:3).
- He retreats into solitude.
a. Solitude may be good, important, necessary, but not in times of conflict.
b. War waging, the captain should be in the midst of his army.
- He sits down in gloomy despondency. Loss of heart, paralyzed, powerless.
- He utters an unauthorized Prayer. Wishes to die.
C. Lessons Derived From Elijah.
- The imperfection of the best of men. There are spots on the disc of the sun.
- The failings of the best of men are generally in the best phases of their character.
- The necessity of vigilant Prayer.
- The proper actions of a Christian.
Comments: When we have a run in with satan, we must not cower off or run and hide. The protective care of God is accessible at all times of our life. He is God in the valley as well as on the mountaintop.

Comments: No one power, principality or other god is able to love and protect us the way Jehovah God will do. Seek Him and ye shall find Him.

The Sin of Thanklessness
Text: Romans 1:21,22,28
Preface: Have you committed the sin of thanklessness? Are you grateful to God and to others? How often do you say thanks? Do you take life and its blessings for granted? Do you presume that you will ultimately be what you need to be and be eternally saved? Look at the sin of ingratitude.
A. It Is The Result of A Self-Centered Ego.
- Romans 1:25 says "Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped the creature more than the Creator.
- An ego-centric attitude is a degraded order.
- This is an inward focus on self-centered pride that counts self as primary and the center of all things.
- This is the sin of Lucifer, the angel who fell (Isaiah 14:12-14, Ezekiel 28:17).
B. A Christ-Centered Attitude Is In Divine Order.
- Christ is the revelation of the fullness of Godhead (Colossians 2:9, Hebrews 1:3).
- When the universe, self, and others are viewed through Christ and in Him, all things are in a proper proportionate perspective.
- True thankfulness controls the ego.
a. Genuine gratitude keeps God as priority and self under control.
- Thanklessness has increased in the "last days" (II Timothy 3:1,2,4).
C. It Results In Alienation From God.
- Romans 1:26-32 tells that God can turn a thankless person over to a depraved mind.
- God will let us have our way if we persist (Romans 1:24-26).
Comments: The sin of thanklessness results from a self-centered ego, rather than a Christ-centered attitude. It leads to taking God for granted. The final result is complete alienation from God and the person being bound in depravity.

The Coming of the Son of Man
Text: Matthew 24:37, Luke 17:28-30
Preface: The return of Christ, the Great Tribulation period, and God's final judgment are futuristic events that constitute the culmination of a period known as the last days. Christ was emphatic in His statement that no man would know "The day or the hour", that the Son of Man would return. However, He did give many indicators as what the time would be like when He returned. The most precise indicators are the two periods of ancient Biblical history that occurred during the lifetimes of Noah and Lot.
A. Noah Lived First.
- We are first told of Noah in Genesis 5.
- Was the son of Lamech, grandson of Methuselah.
- Noah lived in a day of great strife.
- It was in this day that God stopped the long life span of man as a tool of judgment and gave them 120 years.
- God also announced that "My Spirit will not always strive with man" (Genesis 6:3).
- God also decided to destroy all mankind that He had created on the earth.
- This decree of judgment was a complete annihilation of life from the planet Earth and was like no other judgment that God had wrought.
- Genesis 6:8 is one of the most important verses in all of the Holy Writ "But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord".
B. Let Us Look At Things That Existed In Noah's Day.
- Great wickedness filled the earth.
- Was corrupt before God.
- Filled with violence.
C. Lot The Other Lesson Teacher.
- Nephew of Abraham
- Lived in Sodom and Gomorrah.
- God told Abraham that if 10 righteous could be found.
- God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah (Genesis 19).
D. What Existed In Lot's Day?
- City was involved in homosexuality.
- Had given them over to fornication, going after strange flesh (Jude 7).
- Were wicked and sinners.
Comments: Jesus said that judgment came the same day of their ease and at a time of their feeling of security. He also said, "As it was so shall it be".

God Still Works In Uneventful Times
Text: Esther 2:7
Preface: God's presence is not as intriguing as His absence. His voice is not as eloquent as His silence. Who of us has not longed for a word from God, searched for a glimpse of His power, or yearned for the reassurance of His presence. There are times in all our lives when we feel that God could not possibly work because of uneventful times.
A. God's Plans Are Not Hindered When The Events of This World Are Carnal Or Secular.
- His presence penetrates, regardless, even the godless banquet hall of ancient Persia (Esther 1: 16-18).
- He is not limited to working in a Christian family or working just in America (Esther 2:5-6)
- To doubt is to draw boundaries around His sovereign control.
- Those involved may not be glorifying Him, but never doubt it, He's present, He's at work.
B. God's Purposes Are Not Frustrated By Moral Or Marital Failures.
- Even though King Ahasuerus wanted to display his wife for carnal pleasure for the public to see, God still used the situation for His plan.
- Even though King Ahasuerus divorced Vashti because she wouldn't cooperate, God's plan still went on.
- No amount of wrong frustrates His sovereign plan.
C. God's People Are Not Excluded From High Places Because of Handicap Or Hardship.
- Did you stop to think that Esther was a Jew in a foreign land (Esther 2:7)?
- None of this kept God from exalting her to the position that He had chosen for her.
- Where are you at on your journey?
- Are you discounting the significance of your days?
- God specializes in turning the mundane into the meaningful.

Four Super Powers
Text: Various - see below
Preface: There are many great powers on the face of the earth, some physical and many are Spiritual. Let us take a look today at four great powers that should be a certainty for all Christians. We sometimes forget the actual power that God allows us to have once we become His children.
A. Power Number One Is The Word of God.
- The Word of God is quick and powerful and sharper than any two-edged sword (Hebrews 4:12).
- Is not My Word like as a fire... like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces (Jeremiah 23:29).
- The Gospel of Jesus Christ... it is the power of God unto Salvation (Romans 1:16).
- For our Gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power (I Thessalonians 1:5).
B. Power Number Two Is In The Name of Jesus.
- ... In My name shall they cast out Devils... and they shall recover (Mark 16:15-18).
- For there is none other name under Heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved (Acts 4:12)
- A name above every name, at the name of Jesus, every knee shall bow (Philippians 2:9-10).
C. Power Number Three Is Power In the Blood of Jesus.
- Without the shedding of Blood there is no remission (Hebrews 9:22).
- For ye are not redeemed by corruptible things... but by the precious blood of Christ (I Peter 1:18-19).
- Washed us from our sins in His own blood (Revelations 1:5).
D. Power Number Four Is of The Holy Ghost.
- Tarry until ye be endued with power (Luke 24:49).
- But ye shall receive power after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you (Acts 1:8).
- Through mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God (Romans 15:19).
