Are You Weak Enough?

Text:  Hebrews 11:34

Preface:   Quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, waxed valiant in fight, turned to flight the armies of the aliens (KJV).

During the past century few biographies have influenced young Christians more than that of Hudson Taylor.  What was his secret?  In his own words: "The Lord was looking for a man weak enough to use, and He found me."  D.L. Moody aptly observed, "We may easily be too big for God to use, but never too small."

A.  The Spirit of God Always Seeks.
The line of least resistance to the will of God.
In the absence of resistance, the Holy Spirit takes over.
He (Holy Spirit) will transform weakness into strength.
I Corinthians 1:27-28 informs us that "God hath chosen the foolish things to confound the wise, and weak things to confound the mighty."
B.  Most Are Disqualified.
Not through weakness, but through a deep, subtle resistance in our human EGO to His Divine will.
Before God can use us, He must break down the resistance.
We see this example throughout the Word:  Jacob (The Wrestler), Abraham (Home lover). Moses (Who am I), Paul (Persecutor).
C.  When The Resistance Is Gone.
Amazing what our Lord can do with the weak and despised:
Moses (With a shepherd’s rod was despised by the Egyptians).
Samson (A donkey’s jawbone despised by the Philistines).
David (With sling and five stones despised by the Philistines).
Thought of the Week:
God never uses the unclean; But He does use the weak, foolish and the despised.
Let our resistance be gone.
Let Him open the door for us (Rev. 3:8).
Let the mighty POWER of GOD be available in our lives every single day we live.

He Means So Much To Us

Text:  Colossians 3:11

Preface:
Where there is neither Greek nor Jew,
Circumcision nor uncircumcision,
Barbarian, Scythian,
Bond nor free:
But Christ is all,
And in all (KJV).

Ever been asked the question, "Why is Christ everything to you"?
He is of course our SAVIOR.
We mean that HE is our SAVIOR from sin.
At HIS Second Coming, He will be our SAVIOR into HEAVEN.
However, He really does mean the WORLD to us.  Let’s look at some ways Christ sustains other precious relationships to us.

A.  He Is Both Living And Ever-Present.
Some think of a more personal relationship with Peter, Paul and John.  They perceive them to be of a more human side.
But Jesus is both living and present with us.
We must ever be reminded that Jesus Christ is the RISEN LORD.
B.  He Is Divine And Human.
Because He is Divine, He has a perfect understanding of us.
Because He is really human, He has a unique sympathy with us.
C.  He Is Both Loving And Almighty.
There are those that are loving but not mighty.
Then there are others that are mighty but not loving.
    But Jesus is both.
He is love to the uttermost.
He is the power which upholds the very universe.

The Hand Of Jesus

Text:  Acts 13:11

Preface:   The saving hand of God is put forth in His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.  His hand was and still is very much active in our lives.  This evening I would like us to take a look at how awesome His hand touched the people during His ministry on this planet.

A.  His Healing Hand
  1. In restoring the leper (Matt. 8:3).
  2. In curing the fever of Peter’s wife’s mother (Matt. 8:14).
  3. An entire group of afflicted (Luke 4:40).
B.  His Life-Giving Hand
  1. In restoring the ruler’s daughter (Matt. 9:25).
  2. In restoring the widow’s son(Luke 7:14).
C.  His Hand Of Compassion
  1. He laid His hands and blessed them (Matt. 19:13).
  2. Others did not receive them as well.
D.  His Ministering Hand
  1. Christ came to minister.
  2. To wait upon, To serve.
  3. "Ye judge, but I judge not" (John 4:15).
  4. His ministering hand was a model to us.
Thought For The Week:   Faith connects us with Christ’s hand.
  • Our best interests are secure.
  • The great hope will be attained
  • "Our robe and crown".
  • What confidence, love and praise are due to Jesus.

My Ticket Out Of The Thicket

    Text:  Genesis 22:1-2

Preface:   Abraham’s hope was set on Isaac as the medium through which God’s promise would be fulfilled.  Abraham watched his son mature year after year yet, God now ask the most heart rendering task ever to be asked of man.  Abraham was to be tested before he could be trusted with the assignment God had for him.

    A.  Abraham’s Sacrifice.
    1. It is by trial that the character of a Christian is formed.
    2. The birth of Isaac brought him closer to God.  The sacrifice that he must offer is the one most precious to him.
    3. God did not ask him to murder, but to sacrifice.
    B.  Perfect Faith.
    1. There comes a time in every human’s life when we must undergo a crucial test.
    2. Abraham did not demand additional evidence of the request.
    3. Did not question the love or wisdom of God.
    4. Did not wait until he perfectly understood the purpose of the command.
    5. Ever wonder why God called Abraham, "Father of Faith."
    C.  Building The Altar.
    1. We must build an altar before ANY sacrifice can be offered.
    2. There was labor and a lot of commitment involved in getting up Mount Moriah.
    3. If we BUILD the ALTAR of SURRENDER and WORSHIP, God will come.
    D.  The Thicket And Ticket.
    1. The thicket that was most dreaded by Isaac and Abraham turned out to be a savior.
    2. After seeing the knife in Abraham’s hand, I believe that Isaac would have probably thought, "This lamb is my ticket out of the thicket."
    3. What is your ticket out the thicket you are presently facing?

Thought Of The Week:   Trails reveal God to us. The greater the test, the more commitment to Jehovah-Jireh (Provider).  When faced with a trial, don't tear down your Spiritual house, build it even greater.  Psalms 37:23 "The steps of a good person are ordered of God."

    Serving

Today we pay tribute and honor to those who have served our country and given their lives to defend the United States of America.  We also honor those who have gone on to claim their reward in Heaven.  This Sunday let us give thought to the times we live in and just what God expects of us as Christians.

    A.  Choose Whom You Will Serve.
    1. God expects us to make a definite decision to serve Him in fullness and joy (Hab. 3:18).
    2. Today there cannot be any "Half-way" serving God (Rev 2:4).
    3. Many have the misconception that, "I will make it in time". (Luke 19: 9)
    4. There are only two spirits present on this planet, Holy or evil, which one are you serving?
    B.  Satan’s Furry Released.
    1. Today, some are drifting too far from the Spiritual shore, like sands of the sea, (Matthew 7:26 - House built on sand).
    2. Satan will release his furry even greater than today ( Matthew 24:21-24 - Great tribulation, false Christs / prophets).
    C.  Mount Up With Wings (Isaiah 40:31).
    1. Seven times in the Book of Revelation, Christ tells us, "He that overcometh".
    2. We must have, "Joy in the Holy Ghost" (Romans 14:17).
    3. Rejoice with, "Joy unspeakable" (I Peter 1:2).
    4. Paul stated in turmoil that he, "Was exceeding joyful in all things" (II Cor. 7:4).
According to God’s Word, times are not going to become easier to serve Christ (Matt. 24).
However, we can make it today, and witness to a lost and dying world about the saving grace of Jesus Christ.
Choose today whom you will serve and serve Him with joy.

    My Humanity Is Showing

Text:  Genesis 1:27 - “So God created man in His own image”

Preface:   Simon Peter was so human.  His humanity showed through over and over.  Some believe Peter to be some kind of a god, but if you read the fascinating story of Peter, one thing will grab you, perhaps, more than another.  He was every inch a man.  Obviously the more Godlike a man is, the more manlike he will be.

    A.  How Did The Devil?
    1. Ever sell so many people the idea that living for God isn't manly.
    2. I want to tell you that it takes a real man, a real woman, with backbone to live for Jesus Christ in 2004.
    3. It takes a person with a determination and intestinal fortitude spelled, "guts" to take a stand for God. (Josh. 24:15)
    B.  Peter’s Impulsiveness Showed.
    1. Peter often felt as though he had to say something even it were wrong. He suffered like so many from, "foot in mouth disease".
    2. He talked when he should have been listening.  Satan tried to fully exploit Peter’s humanity on every occasion.
    3. Jesus warned Peter that, "Satan hath desire to sift thee".
    C.  His Weakness Showed.
    1. Peter had a hero’s courage in the face of adversity, but when the moment of truth came, his humanity showed through.
    2. Jesus told Peter that he would be offended that night, yet Peter answered Him, "I'll never be offended". (Matt. 26:33)
    3. In the garden, if Peter had prayed, rather than slept, he would doubtless stood firm.
    D.  His Emotions Showed.
    1. The old rooster in the barnyard crowed three times, and in doing so, preached the most powerful sermon on repentance that Peter had ever heard.
    2. In doing so, he wept bitterly.
    3. Peter wrote some years later, "Be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble". (1 Pet. 5:5)

    Conclusion:
Let’s summarize how God used Peter after his humanity showed:
    • He saw the church grow from 120 to over 3000 in one day.
    • A lame man leaped as Peter took him by the hand and another 5000 were saved that day.
    • He was miraculously delivered from prison on the very day that he was to die.
    • Dorcas was delivered from death by his prayer of faith.
