SHAKE OFF THE WEIGHT!
Text: Hebrews 12:1-2 NIV Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles,
Introduction: In this day of diets, health consciousness and physical awareness, we need also to look at our spiritual fitness and health.
The church is often fooled, tricked and deceived by issues that are of little importance to the cause of Christ.
Lets look at some of the Weights we often incur that prevent us from running for Christ!
A. SHAKE OFF CARE & CONCERN
- Crippled by Concerns - We are crippled by concerns of life: * How will I pay my bills? * I or my loved one is imprisoned by desires, drugs, alcohol, self gratification.
- We are Rushed, Tired and Overextended
- BUT, God has a Cure! - (1Pet 5:6-8). {7} Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
- ... Who Is Your Source? "Humble yourselves before God!" (Phil 4:6-7); (Phil 4:19); (Eph 3:20)
- You are not alone when you are committed to Him!
B. CONTENTION & CONTROVERSY
- Enemy Contributes To Discontentment - If the Devil can't distract you with your own business, he will distract you with someone else’s!
- *Who do you think made you so keenly aware of these problems? (James 3:16 KJV) (1Cor 14:33)
- God Has An Antidote Anger & Aggravation - Recognize the Enemy at work and take Appropriate Action base on the knowledge of God!
- Lift Up One Another! Build up the church and sing the praises of God (Eph 5:1, 15-17) (Gal 5:16) (Eph 4:30-32 )
- (Phil 4:4 KJV) Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice.
C. CONCEIT & SELF SUFFICIENCY
- Weight of Significant Self -
- Many times when God has blessed a person with talent and ability, one may fall into the trap of the "Look at me, "I" syndrome." (1 John 2:16 KJV)
- (Prov 29:23 KJV) A man's pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit. (Psa 100:3)
- When I Conquer Self, I Through Christ, Can Conquer the World - When "I" Decrease, He will Increase!
- When there is little ME, there is more room for HE!

The One Who Can Bypass Physical Laws
Text: Mark 6:45-52
Preface: Mark records that Jesus had to actually force the disciples to get into the boat and sail to the other side of the lake while He dismissed the crowds and went to a nearby mountain to pray (vr. 45-46). He had just finished feeding over 5,000 but the people did not realize that His first coming was for the establishment of His Spiritual Kingdom, and not for political freedom of Israel (Luke 17:20-21).
A. Slow Progress.
Although the disciples rowed for nine hours, they hardly managed to go two miles distance. The believer’s progress may well be slower and rougher when he is forced by his Lord to proceed in a certain path. However, Jesus was following the scene with His far-reaching eye. He never looses sight.
He then decided to intervene when least expected and in a HUMANLY IMPOSSIBLE way, by walking to them on the water. When they saw Him, they thought He was a phantom, and instead of being comforted, they were afraid.
- When the angel appeared to Zacharias to tell him about Elizabeth’s son, Zacharias was afraid (Luke 1:11-12).
- Mary, likewise, feared the appearance of a super-natural being (Luke 1:30).
- The angel also told the shepherds to, "Fear not" when he came upon them in the fields around Bethlehem (Luke 2:10).
B. Christ’s Deity At Work.
- Man can make a boat that can sail on water, but only GOD can walk on water by HIS on power.
- John 1:3 tells us that "All things were made by Him; and without Him was not anything".
- It is easy for HIM to bypass HIS own laws of nature at will (Col. 2:9).
- Whatever we need from our Lord, He is in charge of the universe, He will overpower the physical laws and perform a miracle in our lives.
- Trust and obey, for there is no other way.

We Need To Look Up
Note: This message was preempted by a mighty move of the Holy Spirit.
Text: Luke 21:25-36
Preface: As we travel toward our Heavenly home, we encounter many rough times in our journey. It seems rather easy for the Christian to drop our heads and look down because of exhaustion. However, we have an awesome calling on our lives. Christ has left us to do His work here on earth. Satan would have us to take our minds off of our calling.
A. What To Expect In The Future ?
- Bible prophecy gives us hope and direction for the future (II Peter 1:19).
- Our present world is not what God meant His creation to be. It is cursed because of man’s disobedience (Gen. 3:17, Rom. 5:12.
- Jesus came into this world to save us Spiritually (Rom. 8:23, Eph. 1:13).
- In the future, redemption of the environment and our present bodies will take place (Rev. 21:1, Phil.3:21).
B. What Are The Changes ?
- Despite our efforts to preach the Gospel and be the light of the world, things are going to get worse (II Tim. 3:1-5).
- Then Christ will return, and ALL believers will be caught up together (I Thess. 4:13-18).
- This is our "Blessed hope", of the believer (Titus 2:13).
C. What Will Follow The Rapture ?
- The Great Tribulation will follow the rapture (Matt. 24:21, Dan. 12:1-2, II Thess. 1:6, Rev. 7:14)
- The time of trouble will be as we have never experienced before. It will begin at the time of the rapture and last for seven years (Dan. 9:25-27).
- Saints will escape all this and be in Heaven with God
D. We Must Look Up.
- II Timothy 1:12 tells us that, He is able to keep that which I have committed to Him against that day.
- The believer is to hate sin and the devil and fight with diligence and wisdom in the Spirit.
Preface: We must build up ourselves daily by:
- Knowing the faith by study (II Tim. 2:15).
- Believe the faith with confidence (Rom. 10:17).
- Share the faith with others (Psalm 126:6).
- Defend the faith with tenacity (Phil.1:17).
- Loving each other (Luke 10:30-37).

STAND STILL AND LET GOD MOVE IN YOUR LIFE
Text: Joshua 3:8: When ye are come to the brink of the water of Jordan, ye shall stand still in Jordan (KJV)
Preface: In our text, Joshua was commanded to tell the priest to enter Jordan and just stand still. How often we, ourselves, miss the blessings of God because we cannot take time to stand still and feel the refreshing of the Holy Spirit. Joshua needed to have his people feel the anointing, how about you?
A. When The Enemy Closes In.
- When you have reached the end, and feel you cannot continue.
- Job 37:14 tells us that Job was asked to stand still and consider the wondrous works of God.
- Do we actually turn EVERYTHING over to Him (God) and LEAVE it with HIM.
B. Standing Still Is Hard To Do.
- In Exodus 14:13, Moses informs the people that they are to, "Stand still and see the salvation of the Lord" (KJV).
- Samuel told his people that God wanted to, "Stand still that I may reason with you" (I Sam. 12:7).
- Are we TOO MUCH IN A HURRY for even God to reason with us?
C. The Answer Will Come.

If You Can't Beat "Em", Then Join "Em"
Text: Joshua 9, 3-6, 14-15
Preface: Joshua was chosen as Moses understudy. He along with Caleb, urged Israel to enter Canaan forty years earlier (Num. 14). The Bible tells us that he was successful in leading Israel to victories over Jericho and Ai. Sometimes people will become jealous of us because of our past blessings from Jehovah. You have heard the old saying, "If you can't beat "em" join "em".
A. Just Form An Alliance With Your Enemy.
- The Gibeonites knew of the success Joshua had against their neighbors, (Jericho/Ai).
- They gathered together and formed a group in order to join Joshua. They were afraid that Joshua would destroy them if they were not part of the Israelite army.
- Christian’s have in the past felt that joining satan was easier than going to battle with him.
B. Let Us Fool Our New Partner.
The Gibeonites decided to:
- Worn out clothing.
- Patched scandals on feet.
- Worn out socks on donkeys.
- Dry and moldy food.
- Wanted to impress Joshua that they had traveled a long journey.
C. Two Types Of Hypocrites.
- Those who profess to be better than they are.
- Those who think they are worse than they actually are.
- Jesus Christ looks on the heart. ( I Samuel 16:7 )
D. What A Price To Pay.
- The Children of Israel were signing a treaty with the enemy.
- How easy at times is it to take the devil’s way out of a situation.
- Joshua failed to seek the will of God when making this treaty.
- Luke 11:9 "Tells us to seek and we will find".

KNOW I AM GOD
Text: (Psa 46:10-11 KJV) Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. {11} The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge,
Preface: "Life is a Pill" some have said. We are constantly faced with difficulties as long as we live on this earth. Job said it well (Job 14:1 KJV) Man that is born of a woman is of few days, and full of trouble.
The difference between winning and losing is "knowing God!"
A. WHEN THE BATTLE IS IN YOUR CAMP - KNOW HE IS GOD!
- LOOK TO GOD BEFORE GATHERING WEAPONS -
- When Jehoshaphat learned he was about to be attacked, instead of gathering weapons, he (2 Chron 20:3) set himself to seek the Lord and called the people to "Fast & Pray."
- CONFLICT AGAINST RIGHT IS "GODS" BATTLE!
- when the people fasted and humbled themselves and called out to God, HE took over the battle! (2 Chr 20:15-17) .. for the battle is not yours, but God's.
B. WHEN THE BATTLE IS AGAINST YOUR HOUSEHOLD - KNOW HE IS GOD!
- LOOK AT GOD, NOT THE CIRCUMSTANCES -
- When we look at circumstances and weigh our resources, we may find we are in a heap of a mess! However, those that overcome are those that don't mull on the difficulty. The winners are they that Consider their Higher Source!
- (2 Cor 4:8-10 KJV) We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; {9} Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed; {10} Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body.
C. WHEN THE BATTLE IS WITHIN "YOU" - KNOW HE IS GOD!
- Sometimes the battle within ME. It is evident nowhere else but ME
- The enemy will work on your mind even more than anything or anyone else, because the battle is lost or won in your mind!
- HE IS GOD OF THE MIND - (1 Pet 1:13 KJV) Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and HOPE to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
- There is HOPE in Christ Jesus because He is our Source, He is our Strength, He is Our Stability!
HE IS STILL GOD!
- If I will look to Him, I CAN overcome Every Trial, Every Difficulty, Every Conflict! When it gets too much for me to handle He is There!!

Live By The Spirit
Text: Acts 4:29-31
Preface: To live by the Spirit is to live as Jesus lived. Every day you can choose to live a Holy life, to be sensitive to God’s will, and to serve God with all your heart. Whether the baptism came quietly or with a bang, unexpectedly or after long seeking, the ultimate result was to draw the individual closer to Christ.
There is one thing we cannot imitate, we cannot imitate being full of the Holy Spirit. When people live by the Spirit, they have a tender heart toward the things of God and are sensitive to the needs of others. Their lifestyle will include repentance, forgiveness, holiness, boldness, courage and power.
A. A Life Of Repentance.
- Paul tells us that our sinful nature will battle against the Spirit who lives in us (Gal. 5:16-26)
- With this battle going on, we frequently need to repent of our attitude, conversation, or actions. D. L. Moody once said, "One is born with his back toward God".
B. A Life Of Forgiveness.
When we walk in the Spirit, we are both asking people to forgive us for something we have said or done to them and we are also forgiving people for what they have done against us. When the late Andrew Jackson was being interviewed for church membership the pastor said, "General, can you forgive all your enemies?" General Jackson replied that he could not do so. The pastor in formed him that he could not become a member unless he was WILLING to forgive. Jackson paused and then replied, "Pastor, I will forgive if God will help me do so."
C. A Life Of Holiness.
When we walk in the spirit, we live a life that is different from the world we live in. We are in the Kingdom of God, not the darkness. The Holy Spirit will make us feel sensitive to what we say and do. We will want to do the things of God.
D. A Life Of Boldness, Courage, And Power.
- When Peter and John were warned not to speak or teach in the Name of Jesus, they simply went to the Christian community and told them about the threats made against them.
- Only God can enable you to live a life full of courage and power (II Timothy 1:7).
