No Man Is An Island

Text:  ACTS 4:13

Preface:   When we are saved by God’s grace, we then began to live life relationally.  All of our life we are involved in relationships.  That is unless you live in a cave?  At some point in life we would like to entertain the idea of becoming an island.  However, we all know that idea does not work today.

After studying the Word of God for years and also living among God’s creation, I am convinced that there are three relationships that are critical to ones SPIRITUAL SUCCESS.

A.  A Relationship To God.  (Acts 4:13)
  1. The disciples character reflected upon;
    1. Boldness : courage to take on the experts.
    2. Ignorant and unlearned: without formal training, merely common men.
  2. The experience of the disciples;
    1. They had been with Jesus - a critical point; they were discipled.
    2. Being with Jesus had changed them - as it always will.
    3. The changes were visible and had an impact on others.
B.  A Relationship To Fellow Believers.  (John 13:34-35)
  1. Christ gave them, and us, a commandment to love each other.
  2. In the same way that Christ loves us.
  3. We are to develop a love that shows We are our; BROTHER’S KEEPER  (Genesis 4:9)
C.  A Relationship To The Unsaved.  (II Corinthians 5:14-15)
  1. Christ calls us to live life submissively.
  2. Christ calls us to live life redemptively; showing interest in the salvation of others.
  3. Christ calls us to live a life that will draw others to Him.
  4. We are in this world, not on an island.

Spiritual Fire And Passion Will Attract Others

Text:  I Kings 18:1-40

Preface:   Elijah grew tired of his people’s spiritual rebellion and angry with the false prophets of Baal.  He confronted both forces atop Mt. Carmel and there defeated the devil’s henchmen, although they outnumbered him.

No one had seen anything like this courage since the day David fought Goliath.  Like the underdog David, Elijah met the enemy with passion.  His eyes drank in the greatness of God, not the numbers of his enemies.  The Heavenly vision provided the fire.

A.  Courage Flamed Because His RESOLUTION outweighed his RESERVATIONS.
  1. Although he was outnumbered, Elijah resolved that Baal had to be confronted at any cost.
  2. His DESIRES outweighed his DESPERATION. Elijah wanted to honor Yahweh more than anything else.
  3. His COMPASSION outweighed his COMPLAINTS. Although Elijah hated the people’s attitude, he wanted them to FIND and FOLLOW Yahweh.
B.  Let The Fire Fall
    According to Elijah, the fire comes;

  1. When we know our message is from God. (vr.1)
  2. When we stand for what is right, regardless of the cost. (vr. 2-20)
  3. When the need is great. (vr. 5,21,22)
  4. When we take the message to the people. (vr. 20,21)
  5. When we REPAIR and USE the altar of God. (vr. 23-32)
  6. When we face circumstances that only GOD’S FIRE WILL LIGHT.  (vr. 33-35)
  7. When we hunger for God to RECEIVE GLORY. (vr. 36-39)
  8. When we see others RETURN TO THE LORD. (vr. 37)

THANKSGIVING 101

Text:  John 1:12

Preface:   How many of us today actually believe that we thank God as much as we should?  Thanksgiving is a great time to inventory our PRAYER / PRAISE time we spend with God.  After all, we thank Him through PRAYER / PRAISE.  Could it be that we are lacking in really having a THANKSGIVING heart?

There is a little story about a young man that wanted more than anything in the world, to be a lion trainer.  He read every book he could get his hands on.  He even talked to lion trainers concerning his interest in their field of expertise.  Every chance he could, he visited the zoo.

He would stand for hours and watch the lions.  Then one evening after the zoo had closed for the day, the young novice got in the lion area to be with the lions.  The next morning the zoo keepers were shocked to find bones and pieces of clothing torn to pieces.  Some times our experience with the Lion of Judah is similar to this young man.

A.  Prayer Is Praise.
  1. Our prayers must mean something to us if they are to mean anything to God.
  2. Our best prayers have often been more groans than words.
  3. Unbelievers don't pray because they are afraid that God might be there.
  4. Believers don't pray because they are afraid that He might not be there.
  5. Prayer is for people who sometimes feel like eagles in chicken coops and who dream about flying.
  6. Prayer is for the powerless, the weak, and the lonely.
  7. It’s for those who pretend that they have it all together and are afraid others will discover their lie.
B.  Praise Is Thanksgiving.
  1. Have we simply resigned to know God in a superficial way?
  2. When we speak of Him, are we like tourist describing a country that we have never visited?
  3. It is time we return to a intimate relationship with our Heavenly Father, by praising Him.
  4. If we are truly thankful, we will praise Him

ThanksLIVING

Text:  Luke 17:12-19

Preface:   Many SAY Thanks, but Few GIVE thanks.  The 9 Lepers who did not return are identical to the Society we live in today where there are few that provide Heart felt Gratitude.

A.  ThanksGIVING
  1. Giving Living - Giving is something many have grown to hate because of the "pressure" to give.
The Word says we should Give and be Thankful! (2 Cor 9:7 NIV)
(1 Th 5:18 KJV) In every thing GIVE THANKS: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
"If a man's religion does not affect his use of money, that man's religion is vain".  (- Hugh Martin)
  2. GIVE THANKFULLY

It is easy to be on the receiving end; more difficult to be on the Giving end

consider- "Every need is an unfailing sign of life and growth. Body, mind and soul have their needs and they must be met continually."

A ministry that is constantly in need of funds is alive and growing and going somewhere.  A dead ministry has no need, and will not bother you.
B.  ThanksLIVING
Many give TO God, without Living FOR God.

If we are truly thankful for what God has done in our life, it will Affect our Living!

"If Christians praised God more, the world would doubt Him less"

  1. HOW ARE YOU LIVING TOWARD GOD?

Is your life an expression of your Thanks to God or is it more a life of "Absorbing" God’s benefits with little thought or concern for how you LIVE?

Paul said: (Rom 1:16 KJV) For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

  2. ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE

Our life should reflect the life of Christ IN Us

Jesus said (Mat 5:16) "Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven."

God is Worthy of Our Praise Continually, yet we often only praise Him when we Feel good

Be LivingThanks This ThanksGiving
During this Thanksgiving season, truly give God thanks for all he has done.  And be thankful in your daily walk with the Lord.
