Are You A Rejecter Or A Receiver?

Text:  John 1:11-12

Preface:   When Christ made His advent into this cruel world, His reception was not welcomed.  And we think that we are not well liked by this world.  If they treated the Almighty Son of God like they did, then why would we feel slighted?

This world had and never will have a visitor like that of Jesus Christ.

The world gave Christ no respect and did not even receive Him by His own people.

Living a Christian life and stating that we are a Christian have a total different meaning.

Let us consider this morning just what it is to REJECT or to RECEIVE.

A.  His Rejection By His Own.
  1. The people of Christ’s day were not prepared for a Spiritual Leader.
  2. They were hung-up on forms, rites and rituals.
  3. They were full of lust for worldly pomp, wealth and power.
  4. There idea of a king was not Jesus Christ.
  5. They were most often offended by Christ’s teaching.
  6. It denounced their self-righteousness
  7. He was their own Messiah yet they, "Received Him not."
  8. You see they REJECTED Him, so if you are being rejected by the things of this world, maybe you need to look at the rest of this little sermon.
B.  Jesus Was Received By Some.
  1. Those who received Him were satisfied beyond measure, how about you?
  2. Those who received Him were made partakers of His Divine nature, how about you?
  3. Those who received Him were changed and ALL things became new, how about you?
  4. TEXT
C.  We Will Enjoy, If We Receive Him.
  1. The Spirit of Almighty God.
  2. The love and favor of the Father.
  3. The fact of being an heir to the New Covenant
  4. The hope of future glory.
  5. The resurrected body like that of Christ’s.
  6. The crown and kingdom with Christ.
Something To Think About
  1. Would you not conclude this Sabbath Day that is much wiser to RECEIVE Christ and NOT be a REJECTOR of Son of God.
  2. Make a decision today to TOTALLY surrender your life to Him.

Peter’s First Sermon

Text:  Acts 2:14

Preface:   Ever been called upon to teach a class or maybe even preach a sermon?  If so, you for sure know the pressure that follows during preparation and the actual presentation.

The Apostle Peter was not any different than any of us when he was impressed to speak out among the disciples.  He was to be the first to deliver a Holy Ghost filled sermon following the giving of the Baptism of the Holy Ghost on the Day of Pentecost.(Acts 2:1-4)

Peter had four disadvantages that would certainly affect the outcome of this sermon, let us look at them:

He informed the proud Israelites that they had murdered the Messiah, the very Son of God.

The fresh blood of the most shocking crime in history was upon them.

It was Peter’s job to convict them of this heinous act of torture and murder.

This was totally "New Doctrine."

No one had ever preached such things as Peter was telling the people.

There was no college, no prominent figure head to back up this doctrine.  No televangelist to spread the word.  Simply the "New Religion" of a murdered blasphemer.

Peter knew that the fanatical in Judaism would rise up against them.  All the power forces of the opposition were ready to sweep him away and do to him just as they did to his Lord Jesus Christ.

Peter would seem to cheapen his humble message by the fact that he was uncultivated according to their academic standards. He was a simple fisherman, CALLED OF GOD.

Ever wonder what you could do if you would rise up and lift your voice to a sin-filled generation.

Augmenting The Joy Of Heaven

Text:  Luke 15:10  "There is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth."

Preface:   There are angels in Heaven as we worship here tonight.  The Bible tells us in our text that they get excited when one sinner is saved by the Grace of God.  Has it ever crossed your mind that you would like to be the cause of excitement in Heaven?

A.  A. We Should Feel As Angels Do
About impenitent sinners, angels evidently grieve over them, do we?  How much time are we spending during our week in prayer for their conversion?  Do we continually warn them of their pending wrath from God Almighty?  Are we spending time demonstrating the "Love of God", to sinners?
B.  As The Angels Do Over Conversion
There is joy among them over lost souls placed on the Lamb’s Book of Life.  During World War II, Hitler ordered the church bells to ring non-stop for three days at the fall of Paris.  Oh what celebration we exhibit when our favorite sports team wins.  We need to wave the "Blood Stained Banner of Christ" for the lost.
C.  No Record Whatsoever
I find no record of the angels rejoicing over discoveries, military conquest, political debates, commercial ventures, scientific discoveries or sporting events.  However, I do, once again, remind you of the fact that the angels, "Rejoice over one sinner that repents."

Oh To Be A Father
Happy Fathers Day
May God Richly Bless You
Text:  I Samuel 16:7

Preface:   The wonderful experience of being called "Dad" as we have all said at one time or the other, "It is easier said than done."  If every father present today in the sanctuary, will be honest with me, you will say that the saying is certainly true when it comes to being a dad.

Our text speaks of Samuel going to the house of Jesse, the father of David.

Samuel was told by God to journey there and anoint the "New King of Israel."

Have you ever wondered just how Jesse felt to be the father of a son chosen to lead his people?  Or maybe just what kind of a man Jesse really was?

A.  A Father That Was Human
Jesse was a man created in the image of God Jesse had other son’s that he also loved, even though God had not chosen them to be King.  In the eyes of father Jesse, he would have never chosen David to be anointed. (vr. 11)  It is important that fathers let their children understand that they are "Human" and not "Superman."
B.  A Father That Was Real
    Jesse obeyed God when asked by the Man of God, to show his son’s to Samuel.  A REAL FATHER needs to be;
  1. A Christian
  2. Obedient to the Holy Spirit
  3. In love with his children
  4. Supporting his children
    (Financial/Spiritually)
C.  A Father That Is Solid
  1. Like John the Baptist, (Not moved and shaken by the wind/world, Matthew 11:7)
  2. A father that stands on God’s Word in ALL times, GOOD and BAD.
  3. Jesse was willing to surrender David for the purpose that God had called him to.
  4. Even though he would be loosing David as a sheep-tender.
D.  Words To Think About
  1. As you see, the word FATHER is a mouth full.  God expects fathers to raise children in a GODLY manner.  The only way a father can accomplish this task is to be  GODLY HIMSELF

Hey Satan, I Can Do It Again

Text:  Judges 16:28

Preface:   Devil, You Are Not Going To Win This Battle

  • When reading the Bible, you will soon see that two-thirds of the leaders finished poorly when it came down to the last mile.
  • For example, the two most famous judges in the Book of Judges: Gideon and Samson.
  • However, remember that Samson prayed in the end and God blessed him again.

A.  What Happens?
  • We seem to build up steam as we come to Christ and serve Him with great ZEAL.
  • Samson experienced 12 wonderful exploits early in his life; (Judges 14-16)
    1. Killed a lion barehanded.
    2. Slew 30 men single-handed.
    3. Caught 300 foxes.
    4. Killed thousands of Philistines .
    5. Broke 2 strong ropes that bound him.
    6. Slew 1000 men with jawbone of donkey.
    7. Brought water out of a jawbone.
    8. Tore away the gates of the city.
    9. Broke 7 green cords of braided wood.
    10. Broke new ropes that bound him.
    11. Broke the pin that bound his 7 hair locks.
    12. Slew 3000 men and women that watched him chained to the house.
B.  Why Did I Slow Down
  • B. Why Did I Slow Down?
  • We somehow DILUTE the original vision that once drove us.
  • Sometimes we let SUCCESS, OTHER GODS, POOR ATTITUDE hinder and even stop our service and rob our joy.
  • We FAIL TO ADDRESS these issues and therefore do not finish the work God has placed on our hearts.
  • Let’s get going full steam again.
  • Let’s whip the devil out of our lives.
  • Let’s bring back the ZEAL we once had.
  • Let’s overhaul our attitude.
  • Let’s start today serving Christ with JOY.
  • Let’s finish the course the we started some time ago.

Only Two Kinds Of Servants

Text:  Romans 6:16,  Revelation 22:11

Preface:   What Kind Of Servant Are You?

  • Oh, what a solemn pronouncement made in the Book of Revelation. (vr. 11)
  • Also, the Book of Romans makes it very clear that we cannot serve two masters.
  • The problem with many in the church world today is that they can't make up their mind just which kind of servant they really are.

A.  The Kind Of Life.
  • There are no alternate ways of servanthood set forth in the Bible.
  • Everyone is living one way or the other;
    1. Life of service to sin.
      1. John 3:4 states that sin is a transgression of the law.
    2. Life of service to Christ.
      1. One who follows, serves and wants to obey Christ fully.
      2. One who loves God and welcomes His presence.
B.  The Destinies Of Man.
  • What are the destines of servants of sin?
    1. Parable of fig tree makes it very clear. (Luke 13:6-9)
    2. God will not be mocked. (Gal. 6:7)
  • What are the destines of the servants of Christ?
    1. Gift of eternal life. (Romans 6:23)
    2. Also He gives us abundant life. (John 3:16)
  • The wonderful thing about this is that He offers eternal life to all. (Rev. 22:17)
